Indorama and REBHAN launch glass-like PET for cosmetics from 100% recycled content

Cosmetic

Indorama Ventures and REBHAN unveiled LUXYCLEAR EBM PET 5508 — a thick-walled glass-like PET packaging with up to 100% recycled content.

Petrochemical giant Indorama Ventures and German cosmetics packaging maker REBHAN FPS Kunststoff-Verpackungen GmbH have brought a new generation of premium packaging to the beauty market: the specialty PET grade LUXYCLEAR EBM PET 5508. The solution was announced on 4 September 2026 and is already commercially available to brands across Europe, the Americas and Asia.

The material is designed for extrusion blow moulding and allows the production of thick-walled transparent bottles with the visual effect of massive glass — but without its fragility and weight. This matters greatly for the cosmetics market, where packaging appearance directly influences product perception, while glass remains a demanding material for logistics.

“Beauty brands should not have to choose between premium design, packaging performance and greater material choice,” says Dr. Patrick Amrhein, business director of Specialty Polymers at Indorama Ventures. “By combining LUXYCLEAR EBM PET 5508 with REBHAN's design and manufacturing expertise, we are giving brands a commercially practical route to create distinctive packaging.”

“In the beauty and personal care sectors, brands are increasingly turning to our glass-like bottles because they combine the elegant look of glass with the functional advantages of PET: clarity, light weight, cost-effectiveness and suitability for everyday use,” noted Patrick Kohns, Head of Sales & Product Management at REBHAN.

A key feature of the new product is feedstock choice. In addition to virgin PET, LUXYCLEAR EBM PET 5508 is available in versions with up to 100% chemically recycled content, as well as a mass-balanced certified renewable feedstock option. Clarity, performance and surface quality required for the premium segment are preserved.

  • Glass effect: high clarity and visual mass of thick-walled packaging;
  • Lightweight & durable: impact resistance and lower breakage risk in transport;
  • Up to 100% recycled content: versions with chemically recycled PET or renewable feedstock;
  • Global availability: commercial supply to Europe, the Americas and Asia.

The partnership splits roles clearly: REBHAN is responsible for packaging design and production, while Indorama Ventures supplies the specialty PET and technical support. This is an important step for the cosmetic packaging market, as thick-walled transparent bottles are traditionally hard to combine with recycling requirements and reducing fossil feedstock dependence.

The development is also significant for Russian PET container producers. Extrusion blow moulding of specialty grades opens additional opportunities beyond classic beverage bottles — in cosmetics, household chemicals and personal care. Competition is shifting from simple material savings to a combination of design, recyclability and stable serial production.
