"Ural Foliage" will launch the production of thin foil for the food industry.

The Ural Foil plant (Miaylovsk, Sverdlovsk region) will launch the production of thin foil for food packaging. This was reported by Rusal's press service.

One of the world's largest aluminum producers is expanding its capacities for producing thin foil for food packaging. The modernization of the S-3/2 rolling mill at the Sayanal plant will increase the output of thin foil by 10–12%, while the Ural Foil plant is beginning to master the production of this complex product for the first time in its history.

The largest foil rolling plant in Russia and the CIS, Sayanal, has launched the upgraded С-3/2 mill following modernization. This project, worth 500 million rubles, will increase the mill’s automation level and enable the plant to boost production of thin foil (less than 9 microns thick) by 10–12%. Thin foil is used in the production of complex packaging for the food industry — confectionery products, aseptic and laminated packaging.

"In addition to modernizing the C-3/2 rolling mill, we plan further investments in thin foil production at Sayanal. For the first time in its history, the Ural Foil plant is also beginning to master the production of this complex product," said Alexey Agafonov, Director of RUSAL's Foil Division.

Using thin foil in packaging production helps reduce the final cost and weight of packaging, optimize the cost of the end product, and improve consumer quality. The thinnest foil produced at Sayanal is 6 microns (0.006 mm) thick. This thickness is sufficient to ensure aluminum’s excellent barrier properties — protection against light, air, and foreign odors.
